John J. York Provides Health Update & When He Hopes to Return to ‘General Hospital’

General Hospital favorite, John J. York (Mac Scorpio) took to social media on Friday to share an update on his health battle. York has been undergoing a stem cell transplant to fight two blood and bone marrow cancers, myelodysplastic syndrome and myelodysplastic syndrome

Due to his medical condition, York has been on leave from the ABC daytime drama series, where he is surely missed.  Being seen in the video for the first time bald and without hair from this medical treatment, York quickly addressed it, “I know what you’re thinking: You’re thinking, why did Mac shave his beard?”

John then began, “I wanted to give you a little update as to how things were going along. They’re actually going along very well. I’m still in the middle stages of everything. I have a long road ahead, but the test results are looking good. I’m feeling really good.”

As to when John might be able to bring Mac back to Port Charles, he shared, “I may be back on the show late spring, early summer.”

Finally, York wanted to thank the love and support from his fans, friends and GH family as the holidays approach: “I just wanted to thank you all so very much for all your notes and messages of support, encouragement, all the love you’ve been sending my way. I feel your hugs every day and I thank you very much for that. One day at a time, we’re gonna take care of this. In the meantime, I want you all to have a very, very, very merry Christmas with your family and friends, your loved ones. I wish you all a very healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.”

During the 50th annual Daytime Emmys Red Carpet. Michael Fairman TV caught up with John’s TV son, Josh Kelly (Cody, GH) who offered his thoughts on York.  “I have been messaging him. As actors, a lot of fraternal and paternal relationships transfer into real-life. John and I would go hiking and talk about the show, and how much we love working and how honored we are to be a part of this. John is so like Mac. He’s a really good guy.  It’s really cool.”
