General Hospital’s Emme Rylan Breaks Her Silence On a Comeback as Lulu, ‘I’ve Been Putting Off Talking,’ But…
Ever since General Hospital had Lulu’s ex-husband Dante and daughter Charlotte visit her in late July, fans have been guessing that the legacy character is about to emerge from her coma — and they’ve been quick to contact her former portrayer. “I am getting approximately one million messages asking if Lulu is waking up,” Emme Rylan said in an Insta-story.
And her answer? Well, “I don’t want to ruin storyline ever,” she said. “I am very much into the integrity of storylines whether I’m in them or not. So I’ve been putting it off and putting it off and putting off talking.”
Besides, it isn’t as if Rylan is clear on what her response would even be at this point. “I don’t know what to say!” she admitted. So she simply disclosed the things of which she could be sure: “Basically, the bottom line, no matter what the internet says, I have made it very clear to General Hospital that I am always available to play Lulu should she ever want to wake up. It is my understanding that when they choose to wake her up, they would be calling me.
“That could always change. Who knows?” she added. “But that is my understanding. When they want to wake her up, they will call me. That’s as much as I know, and I have not heard from them.”
Emmy winner Julie Marie Berman originated the role in 2005 and remained in Port Charles until 2013, at which point daytime vet Rylan was brought in as a recast. (Before Berman, Lulu was played by a series of child actors.) Luke and Laura’s daughter had only just been reunited with estranged husband Dante when an explosion at the Floating Rib killed her new boyfriend Hot Dustin and sent her into a coma. (Ironically, half brother Nikolas is currently comatose, too.)
If and/or when Lulu receives her wake-up call, she’s going to be in for a hell of a shock. When she dozed off, she was just about to admit to Dante that she still loved him. Now, three years later, he’s enmeshed in a serious relationship with local badass Sam.
